Huntingdonshire District Council is investing in a £1.5m redevelopment of Huntingdon Leisure Centre.
The project, which is being managed by Alliance Leisure, includes a major remodelling of Huntingdon Leisure Centre’s five-court sports hall.
The design and build contractor, Createability, is running a mezzanine floor across two of the courts to create a new Impressions Fitness Suite, a soft play centre and interactive zone.
The redevelopment is taking place in two phases to minimise disruption for existing members and allow both the play zone and fitness suite to be developed without any impact on existing changing facilities.
Phase one, due to be finished at the end of October, will see the opening of a 240sq m/2,300sq ft, 56-station fitness suite on the ground floor, complete with Technogym’s Excite line and strength kit, two Trixter X-Dream bikes, five Concept II Rowers, a Galileo vibration plate and a BalanceMaster lower limb exerciser.
On the first floor, Createability has constructed an 83-child, 135sq m/1,400sq ft soft play facility for 1–12 year olds, along with a studio boasting a ZigZag interactive gym with three giant computerised Sportwall panels and eight Xer-Dance arcade-style dance platforms. The Kids Fun Zone will be launched during the October half term holiday. A 75sq m/810sq ft general activities room and ancillary rooms have also been created.
Phase two, which is due to complete in early February next year, will see the creation of a heat experience spa area with crystal steam, floral steam and a herb sauna, as well as a relaxation zone and massage bed.
New treatment rooms will be available offering a variety of holistic therapies for members and the local community. The changing rooms will also be upgraded and lead onto this new facility and a new reception area will be constructed.
Alliance Leisure is part of the PTE plc group of companies which includes Physique, Physique Sport, Physique Service, ZigZag and Home Fitness Direct.
Createability is a leisure, design and build specialist working exclusively in the local authority and Trust markets.
