Multiload's VoltMaster Intelligent Transformer has been used as part of the new lighting system for three of the most famous rooms in world cricket.
The lighting of the Long Room, Committee Room and Writing Room was part of the £8m seven-month restoration of the historic Pavilion and uses three dimmable VoltMaster 400s and 12 dimmable VoltMaster 300s.
The brief for lighting designers, Lighting Design International was to provide interesting lighting appropriate to the traditional environment of these listed buildings and - in addition to player use - to make the Long Room inviting for use for spectators, MCC members, visitors on the Tour of Lord's and corporate events.
Part of the solution was a picture lighting track system that could be remote-controlled by a curator using a programmable architectural control system to control the illumination of pictures in the rooms as part of a tour. The track was also flexible so that lights could be added or removed when required to suit changing artwork.
For aesthetic reasons, the transformer required to provide a low voltage supply to the track had to be located outside the rooms and concealed some distance from them. VoltMaster was especially suitable for the job since it can be remotely located up to 50 metres away from the light source.
It was also chosen for the project as it is self-regulating and can sense and adjust to the variable loads. Thus when fittings are added or taken away from the track. the set light level is faithfully maintained.?
VoltMaster comes in dimmable or fixed versions with interior or exterior models available, all of which have a patented soft start system.
