Polytan has installed an unusual playground at the Klax 'Karlsson vom Dach' childcare facility on the roof of a shopping centre in Berlin-Spandau.
Named after the German name of the cartoon character Karlsson on the Roof, the kindergartens and creches aim to give children a stimulating environment and encourage their creativity.
Polytan worked with the company Rumpfe and the landscaping firm Schirmer to plan and implement the rooftop project.
In four weeks, the team laid around 450 m sq of soft-impact surfaces in differing shapes and thicknesses high in the air on the roof of the Spandau Arcades.
A special feature and a particular challenge was the undulating playing surface for children to practise their balance and have fun.
Together with a range of plants, the child-friendly Polytan synthetic turf provides a touch of greenery for the rooftop playground.
